Description
Three essential stops on Granada's vermouth circuit in the oldest neighborhood of the city. From the most animated square in the Albaicín to a terrace facing the Alhambra. A Saturday aperitif, done the local way.
In the Albaicín, "vermouth hour" is not an expression — it's a social institution. On Saturdays between 1 PM and 3 PM, the squares of Granada's oldest neighborhood fill with locals trading their morning errands for a vermouth with olives and slow conversation. The route begins at Placeta de San Miguel Bajo, the liveliest in the neighborhood, with four bars and terraces under orange trees. It then climbs to Plaza Aliatar for Bar Aliatar, known as "Los Caracoles" for its snails in spicy sauce since 1907 — four generations behind the same bar. The finale is El Huerto de Juan Ranas's terrace, a restored carmen beside Mirador de San Nicolás with a direct view of the Alhambra. A kilometer and a half of walking, 150 meters of elevation gain, and one of the best Saturday mornings available in Spain.
